Property Description

Architecture/Ambiance...: Continental, Venezian Historical Significance.: National cultural treasure, Landmark in Stockholm Rich in history and tradition, the 132 year old Grand Hotel Stockholm occupies prime position on the city's waterfront, a timeless classic that has played a pivotal role in shaping Stockholm as the cosmopolitan city that it is today. One of Scandinavia's leading luxury hotel, Grand Hotel Stockholm has borne witness to some of the world's greatest achievements, and to this day, continues to makes its presence felt far beyond its shores. Since 1901, the Nobel Prize laureates and their families have all been guests of Grand Hôtel and the list of royalty, heads of state and artists who have stayed is impressive. In the words of a famous past guest, "The Grand is where it happens". Grand Hotel is located next to the National Museum and opposite the Royal Palace and Old Town. The Parliament buildings and Royal Opera House are within view, the best shopping district is but five minutes away and the docks for boats to the archipelago are 25-metres from the hotel. The relationship between Grand Hotel and Stockholm is one that is symbiotic; to take one out of the other is to lose the essence of the whole. They both revel in their duality: both traditional and forward looking, worldly and innocent, Grand Hotel and Stockholm are imbued with a warmth and quiet sophistication that evokes a nostalgia for a bygone era that is difficult to capture in words. Guest & Public Areas Grand Hotel offers no less than 376 rooms, 42 of which are suites, including the Flag Suite and Nobel Suite, which are situated on the seventh floor and offer panoramic views. All individually designed, each room has its own distinctive character and colourful history. The rooms on the first four floors are more traditional in design while those on the fifth and sixth floor are more contemporary. The hotel's interiors are held to be of such great historical significance that they have been designated as a "Swedish National Treasure", notably the Spegelsalen (Hall of Mirrors), Vinterträdgården (the Winter Garden) as well as a number of the other function rooms. As such, the Grand Hôtel consults the Swedish National Museum before embarking on some refurbishment projects. Gastronomy Equipped with one of the most modern hotel kitchens in Europe, food and drink has always played an important role at Grand Hotel. Grand Hotel has been home to many popular restaurants and bars, with the extravagant parties held at the hotel an opportunity to showcase the gastronomic skills. The Grand Veranda serves Swedish traditional food in a contemporary fashion and is celebrated not just for its views but also for being the only Swedish restaurant to serve traditional Smörgåsbord all year round. Over the years the hotel has built up an award winning wine cellar housing over 20,000 bottles, including a few from the opening year 1874.
