LOCAL FESTIVALS Muang Phet Nakhon Kiri Fair-Khao Wang Fair.An annual fair that lasts for 7days during Jan or Feb held at the foot of Khao Wang and at the Phra Nakhon Khiri Historical Park Thai Song Dam New Year Festival-Family reunions of the Thai Song Dam people. Games, entertainment,authentic cuisine and traditional costumes worn by villagers can be seen every April 9 to 10 at Wat Bong Pong in Khao Yoi Songkran Celebration-This is the traditional Thai New Years celebration held each year between Apil 13to 15. During this time people sprinkle or splash water on one another in a celebratory and fun-loving spirit. Be forewarned that anyone out in the public place during this period is fair game for some friendly water splashing Kao Hoe Kalieng Festival-Kalieng Rice Wrapping Festival. This demonstrates the hill tribes customs and way of life-the villagers homes are special all over the districts of Nong Ya long and Kaeng Krachan. This interesting festival is held annually on the day before the full moon in September. The main town of Petchaburi is dominated by the 19th century Phra Nakorn Khiri, a palace complex perched on top of 3peaks built by King Rama IV. the extravagantuse of European, Chinese and Japanes architectuarl styles are set among natural woods,rocks and caverns. Take a strenous hike up or opt for the cable car ride up steep ascent. Another palace built by King Rama IV is the Baan Puen Palace,located in Phetchaburi town. The European style palace served as a rainy retreat. The rooms were nicely adorned with colorful tiles, with a different colors theme for each main room. Popular filming location Slightly north of that is the Khao Luang Cave containing stalacties, chedis and Buddha images. A concrete stairway leads down to the biggest and most important cave in Petchaburi, a favorite of King Rama IV. The caverns beauty was intensified by sunlight streaming from a large opening above Maruekathayawan Palace-Palace of Love and Hope was the summer palace of King Rama VI and located between Cha-am and Hua Hin.The elongated, grand golden teak building was designed by an Italian architect and constructed in 16 days. The wooden halls, verandas and royal chambers are coll and airy and painted inpastel colors, with simple decorations Excellent trail hiking is possible at the Kaeng Krachan National Park, Thailand largest park which covers nearly hald of Petchaburi Province. It contains some of the most pristine tropical evergreen forest and at least 40 species of large, wild animals.
